Coffee, croissants and confidence: Why our Breakfast Sessions matter at 383!
Read time: 4 minutes
The idea behind our Breakfast Sessions is to start the day off hearing from colleagues with an idea or perspective that we can all learn from, with a good coffee and croissant in hand. Though the latter may not always be the case, the former certainly is.
Part culture-builder, part crash course, part stage-for-the-nervous-presenter, they’ve quietly become one of the most important things we do to build confidence, unlock knowledge, and align the team on what 383’s really all about.
Here’s why they exist, how they’ve evolved and why they matter more than ever.
Passion projects to purpose
Breakfast Sessions have been running at 383 for years, but in their current form, they’ve grown into something bigger than an internal get-together.
Originally a chance to showcase passion projects or personal interests, the format has matured into a regular slot to share knowledge that’s directly relevant to our work. That might be breaking down Friction Mapping®, making AI feel less intimidating, or reflecting on how we partner with clients to build strong and lasting relationships.
They’re informal, conversational, and, most importantly, polished decks aren’t the pre-requisite, and neither are big personalities. We want to showcase the real experts from our team, with real learnings, and build confidence throughout 383.
“It’s not about being slick. Even if something didn’t quite go as planned, or is very much in the early idea stage, our 383ers have stood up in front of the team, and shared their thoughts. That’s a big deal.”

Building shared understanding
For example, one of the biggest benefits of the sessions is how they create shared understanding, especially for team members who don’t always work directly on client projects.
Not everyone knows what goes into a Friction Mapping® engagement, or how a tool like Productboard fits into the delivery plan, or what we actually mean when we talk about embedded teams. These sessions give everyone a window into the work and a shared language to talk about it.
And ultimately, that is not only great learning for the individual, but good for the business too. It means anyone, whether they’re in marketing, ops, development, delivery or design, can talk confidently about 383’s services and direction. And that makes us all better advocates, internally and externally.
“It helps the whole team stay aligned on where we’re heading… and why.”
Conversations that stick
Some sessions are memorable because they’re deeply relatable or spark emotion. Others stick because they bring real-world examples that surprise you.
One recent session explored how fast AI-generated imagery has evolved, using side-by-side comparisons over just two years. It turned a technical topic into a visual story, one that helped people grasp just how rapidly tools and expectations are changing.
Another brought product management to life by linking everyday decisions to much bigger narratives, showing how behind-the-scenes choices can shape customer experience.
It’s these moments, the ones that connect ideas to the real world, that make breakfast sessions more than just a knowledge share. They spark conversations that continue long after the session ends.

Designed for growth
There’s a strategic driver behind all of this, too.
When Sukhi (our founder) and I relaunched the sessions, part of the aim was to build understanding and confidence across the team, especially in sharing their expertise with clients. If someone’s always relying on another to explain the value of a particular product, that’s a bottleneck. These sessions have helped unblock that over the years, and continue to do so.
They also serve as a soft skills training ground: a low-pressure space to practise storytelling, become more comfortable presenting, and feel more confident demonstrating what you know.
How do we choose the topics?
Each session is planned around what the business needs to understand better, right now. Some of that comes from Sukhi’s observations, opportunities for team growth, or a question that revealed a gap in shared knowledge. Some of it’s driven by what’s new or changing, such as AI, and how it’s reshaping delivery, design and team structures.
The goal isn’t to cover everything. It’s to spark curiosity, open conversations, and bring everyone along.
Measuring what matters
There are no scores, rankings or speaker leaderboards here. Just the occasional request for feedback. Because the real win is a stronger, more confident, and more aligned team.
